The EEPATHO project
Cirrhosis and primary liver cancer are life-threatening complications resulting from chronic liver disease (CLD). Globally, CLD represents a significant public health issue, driven notably by the impact of alcohol consumption and metabolic disorders (obesity, hyperlipidemia, diabetes) in Western countries, and by viral hepatitis in Africa and Southeast Asia. Diagnosing and appropriately managing CLD is essential to preventing the associated risks of complications and mortality.
While the association between socioeconomic status and the incidence of congenital malformations (CMs) has been documented, this link may stem from various underlying causes, particularly those related to geographic location. We present the first study based on the national health insurance database—the Système National des Données de Santé (SNDS)—aimed at describing the incidence and prevalence of CMs in France between 2017 and 2024, while accounting for patients’ socioeconomic and geographic characteristics (specifically healthcare accessibility, level of deprivation, and environmental exposure).
The EEPATHO study is based on a unique, interdisciplinary collaboration and existing databases. It will enable a precise description of the nationwide incidence of MCF—data essential for developing studies aimed at understanding the barriers to MCF management and creating innovative care pathways to improve MCF outcomes in France.

Fanny LEBOSSÉ
Dr. Fanny Lebossé is a University Lecturer and Hospital Practitioner specializing in hepatology at Lyon 1 Université and the Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at Croix-Rousse Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon – Lyon University Hospital), and is a member of IHU Everest (Lyon Institute of Hepatology). Dr. Lebossé specializes in the management of advanced liver disease and liver transplantation.
Marie VIPREY
Dr. Marie Viprey is a University Lecturer and Hospital Practitioner specializing in public health and epidemiology at Lyon 1 Université and the Health Data Department of the Hospices Civils de Lyon (Lyon University Hospital), as well as a member of IHU Everest (Lyon Institute of Hepatology). She possesses methodological expertise in epidemiology using large health databases and in health services research.
Anaïs HAVET
Dr. Anaïs Havet is an Assistant Professor (Hospital-University) in Public Health at Lyon 1 Université and works in the health data department of the Hospices Civils de Lyon (Lyon University Hospital). She possesses methodological expertise in epidemiology based on large health databases, as well as in environmental epidemiology.
